World's First Vegan Chicken Shop Opens Convenience Store

London's Temple of Seitan opened café and convenience store Temple Goods in Hackney Downs Studios, where an all-vegan market takes place every Saturday.

Vegan convenience store and café Temple Goods opened this week inside Hackney Downs Studios in London. The shop is an extension of vegan chicken eatery Temple of Seitan which opened its flagship shop in Hackney in 2016, and its second location in Camden in January. Temple Goods will operate for (at least) the duration of the summer, and sells Dark Arts coffee, cakes, pastries, a rotating menu of breakfast and lunch dishes, along with vegan products. The Hackney Downs Vegan Market—an event founded by vegan blogger Sean O’Callaghan of Fat Gay Vegan in collaboration with local organization Eat Work Art—takes place every Saturday outside of the space that now houses Temple Goods, and has featured inventive dishes from the brand such as the hand-held seitan-based vegan Bae-Cone. “The Hackney Downs Vegan Market was where we experienced some of our first real successes and without the support of Hackney Downs Studios and Fat Gay Vegan, we certainly wouldn’t be where we are today,” founder Rebecca McGuinness told O'Callaghan. “We are looking forward to serving up some weekend specials to complement the market.” On July 14, Temple of Goods will transform into a vegan beer garden—with exclusive food offerings—during the annual London Vegan Beer Fest.
