In a recent interview with media outlet Forbes, international chain Pret A Manger’s CEO Clive Schlee revealed that vegan dishes are driving the company’s continued success. In 2016, Schlee opened the first all-vegetarian outpost of the 450-location chain—called Veggie Pret—in London to test demand for meatless dishes. After overwhelming customer demand, Schlee opened two more Veggie Pret locations—with more vegan options—and installed “Veggie Fridges” across United Kingdom Pret locations to further promote the company’s vegetarian offerings. “The top-selling eight new products at Veggie Pret are all vegan,” Schlee said, “which either shows that vegan dishes can be just as delicious as veggie dishes, or we have underestimated how strong the vegan movement is.” Schlee revealed that the success of Pret’s vegan offerings have amounted in a 70-percent increase in sales since the launch of Veggie Pret. For the fall, Pret introduced two new vegan options—the Falafel & Turmeric Cauliflower Balance Box and a Pumpkin Bisque—to further harness the unprecedented demand for animal-free meals.
