Nirvana-Themed Vegan Café Now Open in Glasgow

Vegan café In Bloom opened recently in Glasgow, Scotland as a tribute to ‘90s grunge band Nirvana. Owner Rachel Sharp told media outlet Munchies that she and her partner wanted to open an eatery that reflected their love of the band and its members. The menu is comprised of vegan haggis, sandwiches, freshly made pasta, kebabs, and pastries, while the decor features ticket stubs, old promotional posters, and photographs, along with other kitschy nostalgia. “We opened during a lunchtime without announcement to meet the neighbours and test the reaction, and that was great,” Sharp said. “A lot of people have shown great support. There’s been a great mix of curious vegans, Nirvana fans, and neighbours popping in for a look since then.” Sharp explained that Glasgow was a perfect location for In Bloom as the band’s anti-establishment ethos is well-represented in the city. “There’s a good quote by Gary Yourofsky saying that most vegans are from oppressed societies,” Sharp said, “so I feel like because areas of Glasgow have been historically and are currently poverty-stricken, I think people are more open to caring more about other oppressed beings.”
