Popular soap brand Dr. Bronner’s donated more than $600,000 this year to support organizations working to end animal exploitation. The company allocated funds to national animal-rights organizations Compassion Over Killing, Mercy For Animals, Good Food Institute, Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), and Plant Based Foods Association. Dr. Bronner’s also provided financial support for media outlets and brands such as Our Hen House, Natalie Portman-narrated documentary Eating Animals, Black Vegans Rock, and Sistah Vegan Project. Further, Dr. Bronner’s purchased a German ship—aptly named the “MV Emanuel Bronner”—for vegan ocean conservation nonprofit Sea Shepherd, in support of its wildlife protection efforts in the Baltic Sea. David Bronner, Dr. Bronner’s CEO and grandson of founder Emanuel Bronner, adopted a vegan lifestyle more than 20 years ago in an effort to live more compassionately. “Now, many years later,” Bronner said, “I’m proud that my family is committing resources […] to take on the terrible plight of factory-farmed animals and to promote more compassionate and sustainable dietary choices.” Dr. Bronner’s has made financial contributions in support of animal-rights for four consecutive years, and this year, the company exceeded its 2016 donations by $100,000. “The animal movement knows Dr. Bronner’s has its back,” HSUS Vice President of Farm Animal Protection Josh Balk said, “and more importantly, the animals have a powerful partner on their side.”
