Worker-owned grocery chain Publix announced the debut this week of four plant-based entrées at 800 locations from vegan brand PlantPure. “PlantPure wanted to provide consumers with healthy, easy, and, most importantly, delicious food options at an affordable price,” PlantPure founder Nelson Campbell said. Nelson Campbell is the son of T. Colin Campbell, famed vegan doctor/author of The China Study. The PlantPure microwaveable vegan line includes four oil-free entrées: Tuscan Pesto Pasta, Chana Masala, Thai Drunken Veggies, and Peanutty Buddha Bowl. “The beauty of the PlantPure brand is that it is not solely focused on its financial bottom line,” the company’s marketing executive Lori Amos said. “They genuinely want to make the world a better place, which includes improving the health of people and the planet.” Last year, Publix added vegan meat alternatives from Field Roast to the shelves of all 1,100 locations.
