Vegan actress Ruby Rose—who played inmate Stella Carlin on Netflix series Orange is the New Black (OITNB)—took a stance against body shaming in a series of Instagram posts this month. The conflict arose when Rose posted photos from a Vogue magazine event to her Instagram account last month, prompting negative comments telling the actress to eat animal products in order to gain weight. Rose replied to what she called “body shamers” by explaining that she is naturally thin. One follower asked the actress to inspire fans by putting on weight. “I can inspire them to go plant-based and stop eating the nasty processed food, fast-food, and cancer-causing foods,” Rose responded, adding, “I can inspire them not to drink soda or alcohol and how to train well … but maybe you can train yourself to stop seeing what you think is the only way to achieve someone else’s body type.” The actress has been an outspoken advocate for animals in recent years and in April asked her fans to consider going vegan to fight climate change. “Body shamers, I had a great workout this morn[ing],” Rose captioned a recent photo she posted on Instagram of her midsection. “Thanks for asking, and am off to eat a vegan burger because why the F not.” Rose recently chatted with fellow vegan OITNB actress Laverne Cox, stating that her choice to go vegan is “the best thing ever.”
