Toronto’s vegan upscale eatery Planta will open its first United States location in Miami in early 2018. The new restaurant will open in partnership with Miami restaurateur David Grutman and feature a vegan sushi bar, cocktails made with cold-pressed juices, and a menu of inventive plant-based dishes. “I want people to enjoy and not think that because they’re eating plant-based they’re sacrificing [anything],” Grutman told local media outlet Miami New Times. “Planta is for everybody.” In 2016, Chase Hospitality Group (CHG)—the restaurant’s parent company—made a commitment to restructure its meat-serving restaurants to offer 25-percent more vegan options and opened its flagship Planta restaurant last September. Since last year, CHG has expanded the Planta concept to include fast-casual offshoot Planta Burger, which opened this fall in the place of shuttered seafood restaurant Little Fin in Toronto. The Miami-based Planta will debut its menu—prepared by chef David Lee—during a dinner hosted by vegan chef/author Chloe Coscarelli at the upcoming South Beach Wine & Food Festival.
