German chocolate brand Ritter Sport recently announced that it is developing a new vegan milk chocolate bar. A feature in media outlet Reuters highlighted the stagnant growth of milk chocolate bars and the need for companies such as Nestlé, Mondelez, Mars Inc., and Ritter Sport to create innovative products. “It’s going to be very difficult to persuade consumer to buy more chocolate,” business intelligence company Euromonitor food analyst Wiebke Schoon said. “But they are open to being convinced to have better chocolate, to spend more money on it.” Ritter Sport released its first vegan-certified flavors—one made with quinoa and the other with amaranth—earlier this year and plans to continue innovating its products to meet changing consumer demands.
