Starbucks Launches Vegan Oat Milk Across UK

The coffeehouse giant responds to overwhelming demand for more plant-based milk options by adding oat milk to its growing list of dairy-free options.

Starbucks announced Wednesday the addition of vegan oat milk to its menus at United Kingdom locations. “You asked, we listened,” Starbucks posted to Twitter. “Introducing our new oat dairy alternative (yes, it's vegan). Try it in your latte today.” The international coffeehouse giant added almond milk to its menus in 2015 in response to consumer demand and has since introduced coconut milk to build its non-dairy milk options. Stateside, Starbucks has used its new non-dairy alternatives to craft several vegan-friendly signature beverages, including a Toffee Almondmilk Hot Cocoa, which debuted as part of its 2017 holiday beverage menu. The coffeehouse also added a vegan-certified food option—the Vegan Lentils & Vegetables Protein Bowl with Brown Rice—to its United States menus in July. During a recent phone conference, Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson revealed that the company plans to increase its profits by developing more plant-based options. On the retail side, Starbucks announced last year that its would debut plant-based versions of its iconic bottled Frappuccinos, in mocha and vanilla flavors, by May 2018.
