Vegan Fine Foods—the first all-vegan food market in Fort Lauderdale, FL—opens this week. The 4,000-square-foot store offers more than 1,000 products and features a dine-in café serving plant-based comfort food such as açaí bowls, breakfast burritos, and macaroni and cheese. The store is designed to appeal to a variety of customers with the philosophy “strictly vegan but not just for vegans” and carries raw health-foods, fresh produce, meat and cheese alternatives, and desserts, all of which are 100-percent vegan guaranteed. “I saw an opportunity for an all-vegan market because I knew that shopping was a lot of work and very time-consuming for those wanting to maintain a vegan healthy lifestyle,” founder Steven Smith, a Florida Atlantic University business professor and 20-year vegan, said. Smith chose Fort Lauderdale because of its favorable demographics and proximity to tourists. Smith’s vision for Vegan Fine Foods was influenced by vegan specialty stores such as Veganz in Berlin, Germany and Food Fight! in Portland, OR.
