Train company Amtrak recently announced it will add new menu options to select long-distance trains. Starting June 1, the Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited lines will offer a vegan wrap for lunch and a seasonal fruit plate for breakfast that will be available for delivery to customers’ “roomettes” (or cabins) and for purchase in dining carts. The food options (the fee for which is included in the fare) will be prepared off-site and delivered to trains prior to departure, eliminating the need for on-board food preparation. “Our plan is to provide new and fresh food choices in a contemporary way for these overnight trains,” Bob Dorsch, Vice President of the Amtrak Long Distance Service Line, said. “Our continued success depends on increasing customer satisfaction while becoming more efficient.” In March, British train service Virgin Trains updated its menu with its first hot vegan breakfast option—a hot pot that features mushrooms, hash browns, spinach, cilantro, and baked beans.
