California-based vegan brand Beyond Meat announced last week that it will open a second production facility in Columbia, MO. The new facility will allow the company to increase its production capacity of Beyond Burgers and Beyond Sausages threefold, create 250 jobs, and provide Beyond Meat with the space to innovate new plant-based products. “Our expanded 100,000 square-foot manufacturing footprint will provide the scale we need to service our rapidly growing retail, foodservice, and international customer base,” Beyond Meat Chief Operating Officer Mark Nelson said. The brand debuted its Beyond Burger in 2016 at one location of Whole Foods Market in Colorado and has since expanded to the menus at 10,000 restaurants and 30,000 total points of distribution. In May, Beyond Meat announced that it would expand its distribution to six continents and more than 50 countries this summer, and is making its entry into the Canadian market by way of fast-food chain A&W on July 9.
