Cage-Free UCLA

Tomorrow, a new residential dining policy at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) will require that all eggs used in campus foods be cage-free. The new policy makes UCLA the latest university to transition to more humanely produced eggs, joining other California colleges including University of California, Irvine and San Francisco State University. On Friday, the Humane Society of the United States applauded UCLA’s decision, saying that the switch will improve animal welfare, sustainability, and food safety. The move towards cage-free eggs is becoming a more common decision, with national restaurant chains such as Au Bon Pain and Burger King committing to phase in cage-free eggs.
