Chipotle Uses More Local Produce

The national Mexican-food chain plans to source more local produce in the next year.

Fast-casual Mexican-food chain Chipotle has announced that it will increase the amount of locally grown produce the company uses at all of its 1,100 locations. The popular restaurant plans to double the produce it purchases from farms less than 350 miles away—from 5 million pounds to 10 million pounds. According to USA Today, Founder, Chairman and Co-CEO Steve Ells said, “Not only is local produce fresher and better tasting, but it also helps support the environment and regional farming communities around the country.” Chipotle started using local produce in 2008 and plans to continue to increase the amount of local produce used significantly each year.
