A new iPhone app, PlantEaters, helps vegans and vegetarians seek out meat-free dishes at omnivore restaurants across the country. The digital meal-finding tool was started by husband and wife team David and Tracy Hersh, who have been vegan for four years. “Most of our friends aren’t vegetarians and until PlantEaters, it has always been a challenge finding a place everyone would enjoy,” says Tracy. “Now we can easily find a place that makes everyone happy.” The app’s database is filled with vegetarian options from restaurants in places like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago, but users will be able to upload, take pictures, and rate new menu items—effectively building a national, comprehensive guide of cruelty-free cuisine.
