The consumer-friendly façade of Walmart has once again been tainted by more shocking footage from the retailer’s pork suppliers. An investigation conducted by Mercy For Animals has revealed abhorrent conditions at Pipestone System, Christensen Farms, and Iowa Select pig factory farms. The MFA footage shows workers slamming piglets on the ground in an attempt to kill them, cutting their tails off, and castrating them without anesthesia, while the sick and wounded are left to suffer. Besides being hit repeatedly by workers, the highly-intelligent sows are confined to tight gestation crates for their nearly their entire lives. Due to consumer concerns, nine states, the European Union, as well as major food businesses such as McDonald’s, Safeway, Wendy’s, Subway, and Costco, have done away with pork that comes from gestation crate pigs. But Walmart continues to refuse to relinquish ties with cruel animal agriculture businesses.
