San Francisco is a vegan hotspot, and gourmet Mexican eatery Gracias Madre is a mainstay among Bay Area herbivores. Now, Madre is migrating south with a second location in Los Angeles on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. At the helm of the food operation is Executive Chef Chandra Gilbert, who has made her name in the vegan world as executive director for the popular California-based chain Cafe Gratitude. Diners can expect the same array of cashew cheese and vegetable-filled platters, along with a beverage selection concocted by Jason Eisner, a one-time mix-master at Los Angeles’ Italian restaurant Drago Centro. Eisner’s cocktails will be made solely with organic tequilas and mezcal from small batch companies, reports The Los Angeles Times. The southern California Gracias Madre will open its doors to the public this Friday, January 17.
