Los Angeles’ MUSE school—co-founded by actress-turned-activist Suzy Amis Cameron—plays host to the 2nd annual Animal Hero Kids Awards on December 2. Five awards will be given to youth animal advocates who have made significant strides in their communities, from three Pennsylvania teenagers who spent four hours in a cage to demonstrate the cruel confinement of circus animals to a New Jersey youth who hosts his own animal-rights radio show. Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons will be on hand to present an award named in his honor, and other celebrity guests include Renee Olstead, Sierra McCormick, and Lou Wegner. The environmentally focused MUSE School made headlines earlier this year for being the first school in the United States to implement an all-plant-based menu in its cafeteria.
