Ferrari Offers Faux-Leather Option

Luxury car company presented its top-of-the line faux leather interior at a recent auto show.

During a recent auto show in Frankfurt, Germany, Car and Driver Magazine discovered that luxury car company Ferrari offers custom, faux-leather interiors called Mycro Prestige. While attending the event, writer Clifford Atiyeh learned that the interior of a Ferrari’s fully customizable California T model was in fact a synthetic fiber similar in quality to the company’s popular faux-suede interior. While hide leather has historically been equated to luxury in the car industry, Ferrari quietly introduced this option because it is water and flame repellant, sturdy, and won’t fade or crack over time. Andrea Bassi, Ferrari’s head of personalization, identified a customer demand for “something different from leather” and recently placed Mycro Prestige on custom order sheets. While companies such as BMW, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, and Tesla offer non-leather options, Atiyeh concluded that Ferrari’s take on faux is, perhaps, “the most convincing in the business.”
