Michigan-based vegan food truck Shimmy Shack recently debuted its 2016 Grooviest Vegetarians in Michigan Calendar featuring owner (and 25-year vegan) Debra Levantrosser and Detroit-area locals and amateur models. John Kricfalusi—the illustrator behind cult classic cartoon The Ren & Stimpy Show—is a partner in the business and created the truck’s iconic blonde pin-up girl logo “Shimmy.” With the calendar, Levantrosser aims to promote veganism to Michiganders, stating, “Every time you eat at Shimmy Shack, you know you are being compassionate towards animals, healthy to your body, and kind to the environment.” The truck offers vegan and gluten-free fare such as fries, shakes, chili, nachos, cookies and its take on a fast food cheeseburger—a classic American burger with a lentil-based patty. Shimmy Shack strives to become the vegan alternative to McDonald’s and is currently working on landing a brick-and-mortar location and a second truck.
