The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) recently featured holiday cooking tips from vegan chef Tal Ronnen. The owner of Crossroads Kitchen in Los Angeles provided his recommendations for what to cook when you find yourself in various situations this time of year. Among his suggestions was lasagna for when you’re a newcomer to the family, pasta or spanakopita for when you need to diffuse family tension, and minestrone for when you’re spending the holidays alone. Ronnen even included his recipe for dark chocolate rice pudding for those who dislike baking. “It’s easy to make,” Ronnen wrote. “it’s got a bit of booze in it, which makes everyone happy—a little bourbon vanilla extract, really good dark chocolate, and the garnish on it has got these cool little sugared pine nuts.”
