First Vegan Hip-Hop Tour to Kick Off in New York City

Hip-hop tour embarks on a three-month nationwide trek, serving vegan dinners to youth and strengthening the connection between health, wellness, and hip-hop.

The first plant-based, hip-hop tour in history is kicking off its nationwide expedition in New York City on April 21 to 22. The New York leg of The 10th Element of Hip Hop tour will take place in Harlem and include speakers such as the “300 Pound VeganDavid Carter, author and nutritionist Tracye McQuirter, and vegan NBA star John Salley. The tour will begin with the declaration of “health and wellness” as the official tenth element of hip-hop, preceded by breaking, emceeing, graffiti art, deejaying, beatboxing, street fashion, language, and knowledge. The Hip Hop Green Dinner is among this year’s events and will serve free vegan meals to nearly 200 Harlem families, using hip hop “as a catalyst to promote health and wellness by introducing urban youth and families to a variety of healthy food and lifestyle choices." “It is critical that we address the health and wellness of our communities since sickness and disease are at epidemic levels in our country,” Keith Tucker, founder of Hip Hop is Green, said. “Millions of young people are faced with severe health issues and hip-hop culture is responding to those needs. Our goal is to inform and inspire a whole new generation to make health and wellness most important in their lives.” Future stops of the tour include Washington, DC, Atlanta, Oakland, CA, Portland, OR, and Seattle.
