Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, was recently interviewed on Real Time with Bill Maher, where he discussed his new book and the merits of a plant-based diet. “There’s a revolution happening on animals,” Pacelle said, who authored the just-released The Humane Economy: How Innovators and Enlightened Consumers Are Transforming the Lives of Animals. “The biggest food businesses in the US are now starting to source products from places that don’t have factory farms with the cages, and the crates are not confining the animals so they can’t move.” Pacelle went on to name SeaWorld, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey, and various animal-free cosmetic companies as businesses slowly coming around in terms of addressing animal-welfare concerns. Pacelle also joined vegan US Senator Cory Booker and Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker at a speaking event that opened his book tour, where he spoke at length about the big names in American technology companies making for a more humane and compassionate economy.
