On Saturday, Gideon Oji was named the first-ever winner of The World’s Healthiest Eating Championship, which saw nine competitive, nationally ranked eaters chow down on raw, mature, de-stemmed, and chopped kale that was dressed only with a light vinaigrette. Oji ate 25.5 16-ounce bowls of kale (a total of 25.5 pounds) in eight minutes at the Kale Yeah! competition at the Taste of Buffalo food festival in Buffalo, NY. The event was held by the Independent Health Foundation’s Healthy Options program and aimed at helping eateries meet criteria to ensure their most healthful meal options can be considered dietician-certified. Oji, ranked number 10 in the world by the Major League Eating, won $2,000 and the 2016 Kale Cup.
