LAX Named Best Vegan Airport, Minneapolis Worst

Tofu-kimchi tacos and jalapeño-cashew cheese separated winners from the losers.

A recent study by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine recognized Los Angeles International Airport as the most vegan-friendly in the nation thanks to the eschewing of fast-food chains such as McDonald’s and Burger King in favor of healthier eateries like The Counter and the all-vegan Real Food Daily. New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport’s Flora Café and Green Beans Coffee helped it to rise to second place, while San Francisco’s and Philadelphia’s international airports tied for third place. Of the nation’s 24 major airports, Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport came in last, with only 32 of its 57 restaurants serving a plant-based meal option. The report found that overall, 71 percent of these major airport’s restaurants offered at least one vegan meal, representing a 25-percent increase from the first annual report in 2001.
