An all-vegan Big Mac was one of the most popular items at the 30th annual London Ribfest, a five-day barbecue event held in London, ON. The Big MacInnes, created by James McInnes, is made from chickpea patties, served with creamy sauce, and topped with lettuce, cucumber, onions, and melted dairy-free cheddar cheese. “Anything you can make with animal products,” McInnes said, “we can make with plants that is better tasting, better for your health, and better for the environment.” The owner of his own vegan meat and cheese company, McInnes said he sold 500 of his Big MacInnes burgers the first two days of the event with expectations to double the amount by the event’s end. The MacInnes is the second Canadian Big Mac analog to make headlines this year, as Los Angeles vegan comfort food restaurant Doomie’s opened a second location in Toronto to massive success thanks to its secret menu Vegan Mac Daddy burger.
