Published in Nature Conservancy Magazine, this low-carbon energy producer may threaten rare bird species. The article projects that 80,000 square miles would be needed for a so-called “energy sprawl” by 2030. This may endanger species such as the prairie chicken, whose natural habitat tends to be in areas perfect for windmill construction. Experts propose that maps of wildlife, wind, and environmental data be created so that certain areas can be avoided and little harm will be done. This may be beneficial to both animals and the planet.
