Share a Meal”—a nonprofit started by a Sikh couple Ravi and Jacquie Singh—hands out an average of 850 freshly made vegan burritos to homeless people in Los Angeles five nights per week. Their roving food kitchen—which is run with the help of volunteers—is funded by trust funds the Singh’s created, along with donors who can sponsor a night of free meals for $500. In addition to burritos, they also provide the homeless with blankets, socks, and toiletries. “One of the components of the Sikh community is having a community kitchen, and making it available to all people,” Jacquie Singh says, crediting their faith for inspiring them to start the program. The Singh’s program is in good company as Burrito Project LA also hands out free vegan burritos to the hungry in LA.
