Maple Leaf Cookies

Craving cool weather and autumn flavors? Get sweetened this fall season with a box of Trader Joe's Maple Leaf Cookies.

In spite of these treats' sweetness, there's no sugar-coating our feelings: Trader Joe's Maple Leaf Cookies might be the most addictive, delicious, maple-y treats we've ever indulged in—we're talking taking down three boxes in four days. Once you try one, it becomes clear why these adorable cookies are so incredibly addicting. A generous amount of rich, piled-high, maple-flavored crème takes its place between two crisp, sweet cookies, delivering knock-out fall-inspired flavor. Superior in crème quantity to any of its sandwich-cookie competitors, these are the perfect splurge for anyone with an insatiable sweet-tooth. Sit back, relax, and enjoy—a box of these beauties are sure to disappear faster than you can say, "O Canada."

In a moment of weakness I tried these because as a child (many years ago and when I ate much more refined sugar than I do now) I enjoyed the maple leaf cookies made by the (Canadian) Dare company. Don't waste your money unless you like sickeningly sweet things with minimal taste. The Dare cookies were also very sweet, but they at least had a distinct maple flavor. The TJ versions are like brushing your teeth with jelly beans. Addictive is right, plus an ample supply of empty calories and an assault on your insulin-producing cells, among other things: http://www.organicnutrition.co.uk/articles/is-sugar-bad-for-you.htm. Stay away from all the refined sugars and you'll be much healthier.

Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada has their own Nativa organic maple cookies. My family is addicted to them.

These cookies are not pretending to be healthy. If you are having a vegan junk food craving, these will hit the spot.

Does anyone know if these come in chocolate? I saw a chocolate version in Marshall's & don't know if it's the same manufacturer.

I don't see anything obviously non-vegan on the ingredient list, but these are not included in the Trader Joe's vegan product list. www.traderjoes.com/attachments/vegan.pdf

Jim B, Trader Joe's is a bit confusing on the vegan front. They have a list of vegan products and boast that they mark products as vegan, but neither practice is very thorough. I applaud any and all vegan efforts, but they will admittedly tell you that neither the list nor the package labels are a complete indication of all of their vegan items. In other words, they give you a little help but you still have to read the labels. VegNews helps a lot; these cookies are one a few items they have recommended that neither appear on the TJ vegan list or have a V on the box (that I've noticed).

I can't remember now WHICH non-vegan ingredient made me put this back on the shelf with regret (because I do love maple stuff), but when I first saw these maple leaf cookies at TJ's I did check the ingredients and saw that there WERE animal ingredients. Vegetarian but NOT VEGAN.

Since Oreo's are essentially vegan and cheaper, I give in occasionally. Ditto with TJ's Holiday version of peppermint sandwiches. The over the top sugar and chemical list of ingredients, however, is not usually worth the cravings. Sweeteners like agave nectar can be just as satisfying. Impulsive choices always cost healthwise.
