California pigs, chickens, and calves won big at the polls Tuesday after a majority of voters adopted Proposition 2—a groundbreaking legislative measure furthering the humane treatment of the Golden State’s farm animals. The initiative goes into effect in 2015 and ends the practice of confining farm animals raised for food in gestation crates and battery cages. Thanks to this monumental victory, California animals can now see the day when they will be able to stretch their legs, turn around, and spread their wings.
