Veganizing Dunkin Donuts

Compassion Over Killing encourages vegans to submit cruelty-free donuts to Dunkin Donuts contest.
By Liz Miller
Dunkin' Donuts is currently holding its second annual Create Dunkin's Next Donut Contest, and Compassion Over Killing (COK) is encouraging vegans across the country to enter with cruelty-free doughnut requests. The online contest, which accepts submissions until March 8, asks users to choose their dream doughnut by selecting shape, dough, fillings, and toppings, with a personalized name and short story to accompany each sugary submission. COK suggest that vegan entries use the name and story elements of the contest to communicate that their creations are cruelty-free. Winners receive $12,000 and the chance to have their doughnut sold in Dunkin' Donuts stores. COK is compiling a gallery of user-submitted vegan doughnut pictures.

What an awesome idea! I have so many vegan donut suggestions to make...

Yum! That sounds so good!

Cool. It would be awesome if Dunkin Donuts offered vegan donuts.

Dunkin Donuts is so horrible. Until they go cage-free and stop letting chickens rot in their cages, I don't care if they have vegan donuts or not. They need a moral makeover, not support just b/c they might offer a non-cruel item.

Sadly, you can only submit one to the contest. *pout*

There is a local doughnut place in my town that serves vegan doughnuts, and they are exquisite! If a small little mom/pop place can offer animal-free products at reasonable prices, why can't a big chain pick up the slack and follow suit? I'd submit a picture, but I much prefer the 50+ flavor vegan doughnuts that I have access to. : )

It would also be great if they offered soymilk for the coffee!

I actually was offered soy milk at a Dunkin' Donuts in Raleigh last summer.Supervegan.com posted an email exchange a few years back with DD corporate re: soymilk offerings...Now if we could just get a donut to go with it! Unfortunately, VegNews won't let me post the url You can also email DD directly via their website as they have a product feedback page which I am also unable to link to here...

Visit DunkinCruelty.com for information about soy milk (in select Dunkin Donut locations) as well as details on how you can contact Dunkin urging the company to choose compassion.

I agree with a's comment: the availability of soymilk is hardly a heroic effort. I don't think offering one vegan donut is enough to redeem the unethical practices of DD.

This is so embarrassing! Why would anyone want to to even give Dunkin Donut more opportunity for profit by offering "vegan" junk food? The consumers that go to buy a vegan donut may actually associate it with health because it said vegan.

I did it :) So many products are vegan and not healthy. It doesn't stop the consumer from buying them. I know they aren't labeled "Vegan", but having a donut being vegan, I think just helps consumers start to think that maybe this "Vegan thing" is worth taking a look at since it's getting ever-so-popular these days. Most vegans wouldn't eat it since it's not organic. But if you are invited to go get coffee and a donut once ever few months, what would it hurt? We can splurge every now and again and how cool to actually be able to get something off the menu.

Everyone has done such a great job! Would love to go to Dunkin Donuts for these VEGAN specials! Am working on my own entry! Thanks everyone!

Which of the ingredients available are even vegan? They make you pick from their list, it's pretty limited.

The donuts are Whole Foods Market are vegan :)

Yeah, it will still be Dunkin Donuts and yeah they still have non-vegan items on their menu, but hey, if they end up being able to give a little then why can't us vegans? I try to whole-heartedly support those establishments that go against the norm and provide vegan options on their menus. If you don't, then they will stop providing them as options. At least seeing "vegan donut" on a menu gets it on people's minds... isn't that the goal - baby steps?

I am very impressed that a big corporation like DD would take the time and interest to hear from those who are vegan and want to promote our ideas. Let's give it our best shot and be glad that the word is getting out there that average people can enjoy vegan options. I still feel we should continue with our promotion of cruelty-free, however, here is a chance to show another way to be cruelty-free! I am going to see what I can come up with for a recipe!
