After viewing the Oscar-winning film The Cove—a documentary focusing on dolphin capture and slaughter in Japan—dolphin tradesman Chris Porter has decided to ditch his line of work and release the dolphins currently under his care back into the wild. Porter, who has been called the “Darth Vader of dolphin hunting” due to his participation in capturing and selling more than 80 dolphins to aquariums, was also moved by the recent events surrounding killer whale Tillikum at Sea World. Before his change of heart, Porter believed that captive marine mammals were useful as educational tools and had worked as a trainer.
