Bread Square, a new all-vegan and gluten-free bakery in Grand Rapids, MI, will become the first dairy- and meat-free bakery in the western Michigan city. The bakery is the brainchild of the collective behind Grand Rapids’ veg restaurant Bartertown Diner, and will serve both as a storefront and the bakery and catering center for the dining spot. The team behind the bakery hopes to not only provide cookies, cupcakes, and fresh-baked bread to the residents of Grand Rapids, but also plan to offer cooking classes and educational materials. “Working ‘cruelty-free,’ to us, is something that the world can only benefit from, especially when the products we buy and use are locally raised, supporting local people, and sustainable, supporting the earth,” Bread Square Bakery Officer Matthew Russell tells Grand Rapids Business Journal. “Grand Rapids just happens to be where we live and enjoy living.”
