This weekend, music icon Lizzo took to TikTok to share her latest vegan recipe: fried chicken and sausage biscuits. “Hey, so I’m eating my feelings because the world continues to let me down,” Lizzo started the cooking video, commenting on current events. The musician prepared her fried chicken using oyster mushrooms in place of meat and dredging them with vegan JUST Egg instead of animal-derived eggs. For the biscuits, Lizzo made a dough using vegan yogurt and flour and filled it with vegan cheese, jalapeños, and veggie sausage chunks, which she basted with JUST Egg.

This weekend’s recipe is the latest in a string of vegan meals Lizzo has shared on TikTok with her 7.7 million followers during the COVID-19 lockdown. In April, the musician kicked off her quarantine cooking by veganizing the McDonald’s McChicken sandwich. In May, Lizzo shared a recipe for vegan meat and cheese Jamaican patties using MorningStar’s meat crumbles, Follow Your Heart’s Vegan Egg, and Tofutti vegan cream cheese.

The 32-year-old musician is also using her social media platforms to advocate for racial justice in a variety of ways, including by going live on Instagram over the weekend with Black Visions Collective (a Black-, trans- and queer-led organization that is committed to transformative, long-term change) to discuss issues such as giving Black activists more visibility on social media, defunding the police to reallocate resources to other services, and the hypocrisy of the treatment of reopen-America protestors versus Black Lives Matter protestors by the police. “When we’re free, everyone’s free,” Lizzo said during the livestream. “When our lives matter, everyone’s lives matter.”
